Not having all the planning done must've made you crazy. But as someone who travels on the other end of the spectrum - eh, let's just go with it and see how it works out (and, hey, that non-plan worked well for me for a year and 16 countries!) - did you see any of the fun of not planning it all out? I do realize that having a year versus two weeks means that you HAVE to do a bit of planning, but...some of my most favorite memories seemed to come from those unplanned moments.

The Duomo looks CRA-ZEE. I can only imagine Dad's reaction to seeing that crowd outside lol. It kind of reminds me of La Familia Sagrada in Barcelona and if it is anything like that, well, the inside is probably pretty cool, but the outside is damn freaking interesting in it's own right. So. There's that. :-)

Can't wait to hear/read/see more!

Aww, I'm sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy Milan and the Duomo specifically. :(

When I first visited Milan it was in the winter during while on a snowboarding trip in Bormio. We took a day trip down to visit the Duomo and a few other places. We had the Duomo to ourselves.

The building is incredibly beautiful inside and out. We took a trip up to the roof and walked around under a nearly full moon during the late afternoon. Just beautiful. Our friends actually got engaged on the steps so it was very touching.

As an art lover, being able to see the Last Supper was pretty awesome as well.

Looking forward to hearing about the parts of the trip you DID love!

Ooooh I love the architecture pictures. My favorite part of traveling is looking at all the old buildings. I wouldn't care what was in all the shops, I'd be looking up at walls and roof lines. That Piazza Duomo is something else.

Looking forward to the next installment.
