I Need to Know

Howdy.

A little help, please?

Do you find this site slow to load?

If yes, is it slow on your computer, on your mobile device, or both?

It seems slows to me. But it could just be me. So I figured I’d ask y’all before I go through the chores associated with fixing it.

Let me know.

  1. I usualy see your new posts through an RSS reader (Feedly) on my Motorola Photon smartphone. The initial feed through Feedly is almost instantaneous. When I click on “Visit Website” within Feedly it’s still pretty fast to load.

If I bypass Feedly and use a browser (Firefox) on my smartphone to access your blog directly it does seem to load slowly. Especialy if it’s a blog with lots of photos (like Europe). This experiance is the same on my HP Mini PC running Linux Mint 17.1 (with Firefox) also. The post loads at the same speed whether it’s cached or not.

Love your site BTW. Your detailed Google route maps you post on the precise roads ridden on a trip are great. How do you do that? Is it simply a snapshot of a screen capture converted to a jpg file or are you using some cool plug-in?

    1. Thanks for the detail, Lanza. I have noticed the slowness most lately, and that could be because all my catch-up trips have been so photo heavy. Just one more installment to go.

    1. I don’t have many plugins. I was thinking it might be my large background image.

I may delete some of the excess plugins to see what that does. Thanks.

  2. I use Google Chrome on my phone, at work on my laptop, and at home on my tablet and haven’t noticed any slow speeds on any of my devices.

    1. Thanks, Shan. Chrome made it better on my phone, but it’s still not great. Looks like some tweaking is in order.

  3. I’m glad that you asked, Toadmama, because I was just too shy to say anything… After some of your recent changes (i.e., background), I can view your site only at my desktop computer, where it loads pretty quickly through Chrome. No longer will it fully load on my iPad 2, whether through Feedly or directly through Google–all I ever get are bits and pieces.

    1. Ryan, thanks for coming clean. 🙂

I switched to Chrome on my phone and it loads a lot faster than with Safari, but still not great. I’ll probably have to change templates or something. Funny how it works okay for some, but not others. I’m using an older template. Once I make the switch, it’ll probably be obvious, but I’ll say something anyway. And if it’s still screwy, let me know.

      Thanks for hanging in there!
