The Kirkpatrick's D.I.Y. Project for 2005
Getting the Bundled Shingles Onto the Roof
October 14 - 16, 2005
Well, we lost a weekend of work due to weather.
After just about the driest September in history, we've had
the wettest October. Figures, right?
We really need to get some shingling done. The first phase
of that chore is getting the bundled shingles onto the roof.
They are HEAVY. Each bundle weighs over 50 pounds. So we
rented a cool tool to help, aptly named a shingle lifter.
Here is Mike on the peak of the roof just about to unload
the first bundle of shingles. That black speck in the photo
is a falling leaf. Autumn arrives in the mountains early.
That's Chuck on the ground operating the lift.
These guys work well together.
Mike had to do this with 60 bundles of shingles.
I had to move some bundles around to the side of the house.
After only 7 bundles, I was pooped.
The guys moved the lift to the other side of the house.
I cleared some leaves away from the fire pit.
But you can still see how many have fallen.
The next day, Mike and I finished installing the Tyvek®.
See the shingles staged on the roof?
Meg, bored, as usual, as we work.
A little Fall color along the driveway.
