The Kirkpatrick's D.I.Y. Project for 2005
Installing the Windows & Doors - PART II
September 23 - 25, 2005
The windows and doors have all been installed!
Our son, Eric, finally had a free weekend (he quit his job), so we
enlisted his help to set the large windows in place. Mike did
all the prep work before Eric and I arrived on Friday. He just
needed Eric's help to set the window in place,
someone to take the documentary photo, and ...
... my help to secure it. I am getting
GOOD with those power tools!
Eric and I then put the Tyvek® on the
back of the house in preparation for installing
the back window and door.
Unfortunately, we installed it upside-down!
Mike shakes his head as he cuts the Tyvek® for the
door opening. You have to cut it a certain way and fold
the pieces over to help make the opening weather-tight.
Next, he cut the opening for the window.
It wasn't long after that when we heard the Lowe's truck coming
down Turkey Hollow Road. Sound really travels in the middle
of the forest. Our shingles had arrived!
We all had to watch the guy unload.
Entertainment comes cheap in them thar hills.
Alas, we had to get back to work.
The boys set the window.
And I secured it in place.
Then it was time for a break!
Well, Mike and I got a break, anyway.
Eric decided to try splitting wood.
It didn't take long for him to realize that Pop (my Dad) is way
better than him at log splitting (Pop's got years of experience).
It didn't take long for me to realize I'd better move Mike's car.
Meg enjoyed the break, too.
Break is over. Time to install the back door.
Plus, there was more wrapping to do.
The gable above the garage is done.
The tape covers the seams and staples.
We have lots more taping to do.
Mike tapes the Tyvek® over the window to seal it.
Eric slits the excess wrap and tucks it under the eaves.
Eric enjoys trash duty in the mountains!
A burn barrel is much more fun than cans
that have to be dragged to the curb.
Meg wasn't paying attention to where she laid her head.
She doesn't realize she has a dirty face.
We had to stop early on Sunday; we ran out of Tyvek®.
The house from the front, left.
The house from the front, right.
The house from the back.
Next on the agenda is ...
SHINGLING
Oh boy!
