Bedroom Paint & Finishing

August 10 - 12, 2007

I am back! The break was nice, but Mike and I are
both really itching to get this place done.

The first picture you see below is an older one that I forgot to post.
I often tell people my dogs are like hairy toddlers. Here's an example...

Meg put her footprints in the wet drywall compound on my freshly-finished
windowsill. I guess that's the dog equivalent of carving initials in wet concrete.

My objective for the weekend was to finish painting the bedroom and
kitchen. The kitchen walls needed a second coat. Plus some trim work.

The bedroom walls were done, but Mike had to go and put a hole in one of
them. The purpose of the hole was to place a thermostat sensor in the concrete.

This wiring is where the thermostat will be.

During one of our breaks, I decided to trim the dogs' ears.
C's ears get really ratty looking when the hair is long.

See the difference?

Now both ears are done.

Meg is far more tolerant than C when it comes to just about everything
(except for the vacuum cleaner). She's letting me do some touch-up.

After the break, I finished painting the bedroom ceiling a nice, sky-blue.

Mike lining-up the thermostat ...

... then screwing it into place.

This is where I add the clouds.

I've always wanted a ceiling with clouds. It goes well with the
outdoorsy feel of the room. I am showing off my palette of gray,
blue and white, which I mixed to give the clouds a 3-D effect.

Mike admitted later that the blue ceiling had him worried.
But he's nice enough to let me experiment without complaining.

While I painted clouds, Mike repaired the hole.

The clouds are done!

Then it was time to install the ceiling fan. The wiring confused Mike ...

... so I had to step in and finish up for him.

I am kidding of course. Notice the wires still sticking out of the top?

Mike connected the wiring.

I added the pull-chain. I assembled the blades, too.

Just a reminder ... the unpainted area on the
green wall is where the headboard will be.

The next day, Mike took a turn painting. Before that,
he did quite a bit of drywall finishing. Here he's priming.

It may look like white paint, but it is just primer, which seals the walls.

Here I am adding the second coat of paint in the kitchen.

More sanding! After painting one half of the room, Mike moved
all of our crap out of the way so he could finish the drywall work
on the other side of the room and in the back hallway.

Drywall finishing.

A view of the ceiling from the bed. As you can see, the fan works.

I am VERY excited about the next phase of construction. It is
finally time to install the kitchen! We might start next week.
