The Kirkpatrick's D.I.Y. Project for 2005
Shingle Installation - Part I
November 4 - 6, 2005
Well, here it is November and we STILL don't have our shingles on. The weather hasn't
been cooperating. Then last weekend Mike had to go to Chicago for some plumbing convention.
This past Saturday (November 5), I had to take Eric up to Aberdeen, so I wasn't able to
get to WV until evening. Maybe next weekend we can finish installing the shingles.
This is how many shingles Mike installed without me. It doesn't
look like a lot, but installing shingles is hard work.
He did finish shingling this little roof, though.
It's the one that's over the bow window off of the kitchen.
He had to put drip edging along the edges of the roof, too.
The good news is, we finally have a real road!
Up until a week or so ago, Turkey Hollow Road was not
graded. It didn't have gravel either. Of course, the
gravel stops at our driveway, but that's okay.
Here's a shot where you can see what the entire
road used to look like (foreground) and how much
better it looks with the gravel.
Did I mention that it was raining when we woke up on
Sunday morning? I was taking pictures while we waited for
the roof to dry off. This is what CeCe looks like when we
start the generator and air nailer. She doesn't like loud
noises. This is her "let me in!" look. She feels safer under
the table in the trailer for some reason.
Here's Mike installing some drip edging.
This is why we need to get the shingles installed... interior puddles.
The roof finally dried off enough to walk on. We got about 4
bundles of shingles installed before it started to rain again.
We had to quit and put all of our tools away. Of course, a short
time later it stopped raining! See the blue sky? But it was WINDY.
No more shingling for the day. But there was some loose tar paper
that Mike needed to secure. Hopefully it will still be there this week.
Even more loose tar paper.
Mike works to secure the loose pieces with staples.
Another view of the partially shingled roof.
The sky just got bluer and bluer.
The leaves up there are pretty much past the peak of color,
but there was still some color to be found if you looked closely.
Fall color with dried grass in the foreground.
Looking down the driveway.
Cool red leaves.
More colors.
It sure looks different here in the Fall.
And it is wonderful that it is no longer HOT!
Lichen on a tree (I think).
An array of color.
I was being creative. When Mike saw this picture, he thought
to himself (as he explained), "What the Hell is that?" He just
doesn't see things the same way I do all the time.
Check back in next week to see Shingle Installation - Part II.
