The Kirkpatrick's D.I.Y. Project for 2005

Shingle Installation - Part IV

November 25 - 27, 2005

Our fourth–hopefully, final–weekend of shingling did not start
off on the right foot. We arrived on Friday to discover our trash
barrel had blown over. Mike retrieves the barrel and some trash.

It had been a cold week in WV. So cold that even the
dish washing liquid was frozen! Ever seen that?

We did have some good news. The power poles are now installed
Alas, power is not hooked up yet. Only about three of the poles
had wire on them. We are not yet connected to the main line.

Since it is now deer hunting season, and we are in the middle
of the woods in West Virginia, I made the girls some blaze orange
hunting vests. I didn't want hunters mistaking them for deer.

Friday was COLD, so Mike and I went down to Moorefield for dinner.
We returned to the trailer (where we'd left the dogs) to find two
very large piles of what we are pretty sure was regurgitated
deer guts. Hunters typically gut their deer in the woods, leaving
the entrails behind for scavengers or two dumb dogs to eat.
No pictures of that mess to share. Or the five other large
piles regurgitated during the night.

Oh yeah, we were having heat problems again.
It was 30 degrees INSIDE when I got out of bed Saturday morning.

Saturday was pretty darn cold. But we had work to do.
Remember all the times we complained about the summer heat?

Despite not wanting to be up there in the cold, we did
manage to get a lot done. We're not 100% complete. We still
need to put the roof vent in. But we are done enough.

No more roofing work for us until 2006!!!

Looks pretty good, doesn't it?

We're locked down for the winter.

The dogs are dressed and waiting patiently inside
the trailer as we pack the truck up to leave.

Mike secures the cargo for the long drive home.

I am not sure if we'll be back to WV this year,
so this page may not be updated for a while.
But construction will continue next year for sure.
