The Kirkpatrick's D.I.Y. Project for 2005
Installing the Surface Bonding Material
July 2, 2005
Surface bonding compound is used to coat the inside and outside
of each wall to hold the blocks in place. This is the technique Mike
chose to use instead of putting mortar between each layer of block.
Here's a close-up of the surface bonding compound after it was applied.
That expression clearly says, "Don't you have anything better to do?"
The Foreman (aka Mike) was grumbling something
unintelligible, but I took the picture anyway.
To keep peace, it was back to the mortar mixer for me!
Surface bonding compound has to be mixed, too.
My legs are usually covered in dirt at the end of each day.
Mike applies more mortar.
"Would you quit with the &¢©±®! pictures!?!"
He's just jealous because I get breaks between batches of mortar.
Chuck is stuck in the "wet rag over the wall" position.
Time to smear surface bonding over the last block!
Just that one tiny patch remains!
What a team! Chuck and Mike are both happy to throw in the trowel
at the end of a very long, hot day.
