The Kirkpatrick's D.I.Y. Project 2006 (Year Two)

A Working Bathroom!

June 9 - 11, 2006

Mike completed the drywall finishing, so it was my turn to paint.
It is "new construction" and requires 2 coats of primer first.

Mike was kind enough (or paranoid enough) to tape things up for me.

As an aside, remember that bird's nest? It now contains 3 babies.
According to the bird book we have, the birds are Eastern Phoebes.

That's Mama on the left and 2 of the babies on the right.
Baby #3 ducked right before I pushed the shutter button.

The paint is drying.

You know what they say about paint drying, right? It is
boring to watch. Mike and the dogs napped while I cleaned up.

Once the paint had dried, it was time to install the sink
and toilet. We have functioning indoor plumbing!!!

And we can take long, hot showers now, too.

Working plumbing was our biggest goal. Since
we have that all-important room finished, we were
able to move out of the trailer and into the house.

Our first meal in the new house.

Meg sits patiently as I remove burrs from her coat.

It isn't quite "all the comforts of home" yet. But it is nice to be out of the trailer for good.
It served its purpose, but was old and quite cramped. We may be roughing it for a while still,
but at least we have space to move around. Mike needs to make a platform for the air
mattress (to get the bed off of the floor). My next project is going to be the
long-anticipated painting of the kitchen cabinets!
