The Kirkpatrick's D.I.Y. Project 2006 (Year Two)

Interior Walls & Plumbing, Part III

April 14 - 16, 2006

HAPPY EASTER!

I saw these tulips on the way to WV and just HAD to take some pictures.

I was amazed at all the color.

This is definitely an example of beauty in an unexpected place.
Care to guess where the photo was taken?

At a REST AREA along I-70 westbound, a few miles east of Hagerstown, Maryland.
We always have to stop here so the dogs can "rest." I told Mike I had to go, too.
He didn't notice me grabbing my camera and was wondering why I took so long!

First thing on Saturday, Mike moved my motorcycle out of the garage. As the
living space becomes defined, the garage gets more and more crowded.

Of course, he had to take it for a quick spin down the driveway.

Mike found this nest in the eaves last weekend. He thought it belonged to the swallows
who seem to live in our house when we aren't there (as evidenced by the bird poo all over
the place). We see them in there periodically, usually in the early evening.

After some quick Internet research, I am pretty sure
the nest belongs to some type of Chickadee.

Mike solders some pipes.

More soldering.

A close-up of the cool, new valve on the washing machine rough-in.

Taking all these pictures is hard work! Meg likes to be close at all times.

Mike got tired of me taking pictures and asking
questions (I bore easily), so he put me to work.

First I had to measure...

Then I got to use the saw to cut some wood.

I was making these little cross-members that go between the joists.
They are needed to anchor the wall top-plate, which holds the wall in place.

The top plate is in. The first stud is also in place.

I am installing more studs.

Each one had to be toe-nailed in place, top and bottom.

Mike helped out a little bit, too.

Look! A hallway!

And a bedroom closet. The linen closet opens onto the hallway.

We found another nest. Actually, Meg spotted it first.

Mike works on the wall between the bedroom and kitchen.

My dirty motorcycle is all charged-up and ready to go.

The bedroom walls are 95% framed.

The door header is in. The last thing we did before I left was decide where the switch
boxes and power outlets were going to go (note the blue boxes on the walls). Well, Mike
already had them planned. He just needed to make sure we had them all placed logically.

Here I am, all ready to leave (I think Mike was anxious to get rid of me).

There I go!

It was actually nice to ride. I hadn't been on my
motorcycle since early September 2005. So I took my
time and enjoyed the scenery. I took a few pictures
at the Antietam battlefield in Sharpsburg, Maryland.

We get to take a weekend off, then it's back to work for us!
