Installation of Wall Drywall

April 27 - 30, 2007

We did indeed have last weekend off. On Saturday, Mike went to his grandfather's
95th birthday party in Clearfield, PA. He rode his motorcycle. He stopped at the
WV place on the way home, which is where he spent the night. I drove my car to WV
on Sunday morning and we rode our motorcycles back home together. It was a perfect
day for riding. Sunny, low humidity, temperature in the mid-70s. Now, if only I
had the bigger motorcycle I've been wanting! The car spent the week in WV.

Alas, we had to get back to reality and work this weekend. That meant hanging
drywall. There are 20 sheets in the back of the truck and about 85 stacked in the
garage. We can only carry 20 at a time because each sheet weighs about 50 pounds.
That's 1,000 pounds of drywall. It weighed the truck down so much that our
headlights were blinding oncoming drivers (they were flashing their lights at us).

With Mike standing in the garage, you can see how high the stack is.

First thing on Saturday, I walked the dogs to the end of the driveway.
That's a routine we have. What isn't routine is CeCe rolling in a stinky bog.

Rolling in stinky stuff is one of C's more-annoying habits.

But this is the dirtiest she has ever gotten.

Isn't it pathetic?

I left C outside and got to work. Mike was prepping while I was gone.

He and I work pretty well together. We had a few sheets hung in no time.
We started on the wall between the house and garage and worked our way
around. Here's Mike using his roto-zip tool to cut the window openings.

The tool works pretty well, but it makes a huge mess.

This image is dark due to all of the dust flying in the air.

Mike is cutting an opening for the water valves.

Using that tool is much quicker than trying to measure then cut.

We had a pretty good routine going. After we'd get
a sheet temporarily fastened into place, Mike would measure
for and cut the next while I used the drywall square to
mark the stud lines and nail the sheet into place.

This was a big weekend for me. I got my first REAL
tool. A hammer. Here I am using it like a pro.

C hates the noise we make. This is a shot of her from the kitchen.

Meg, on the other hand, could care less. She'll sleep through anything.

The exterior kitchen walls are covered.

Here Mike is disconnecting the outlets and switches in the bedroom.

Again, we had a couple of sheets hung in no time.

The room is starting to take shape.

The exterior walls are covered.

Here's Mike using the roto-zip to cut the door opening.

Can't you just hear him now?
"Quit with the pictures and get back to work!"
I'm kidding. He enjoys the photo documentation
of our work as much as everyone else. He just gets
sick of me making him stop to pose for pictures.

The bedroom is finished!
Look at the messy floor.

The dogs like to be near me. They sometimes get in the way.

That was actually the end of my day on Sunday. I left for home in the truck
with the dogs. Mike stayed through the evening and into Monday. He drove
the car home after doing some finishing work in the kitchen and bedroom.

The half-wall separating the living and kitchen areas got
covered with drywall AND the first coat of mud and tape.

Here's a shot of the wall from inside the kitchen.

He got the first coat up in the bedroom, too.

Next weekend we'll be hanging more drywall.
