Work Resumes

September 29 - 30, 2007

We had a couple of weeks off!

Actually, we were here September 7 - 9, but believe it or not didn't
take any pictures. We skipped the weekend of September 14 - 16 to
attend a picnic with some members of my family (Dad's side).

Here's a picture of that family. One day when I get all caught up on
projects, I'll add more photos to the Family section of this Web site.

We skipped the weekend of September 21 - 23 to go on a real VACATION. We rode
our motorcycles to the Great Smoky Mountains in North Carolina/Tennessee.

Isn't this picture cool? That's us, with me in the lead, actually riding our
motorcycles as opposed to just sitting on or standing next to the bikes.
Wanna know how we got the picture?

Actually, a professional shot it as we were riding the Dragon, an 11-mile stretch
of US 129 near the TN/NC state line. It is called the Dragon (also Deal's Gap) because
there are 318 turns in just 11 miles of road. Trust me when I say you REALLY need
to pay attention when riding there. It was quite a challenge and lots of fun!

Back to working on the house...

In all honesty, I was not feeling very energetic after
putting 1,750 miles (just over 2,816 kilometers) on my
motorcycle in 7 days. So Mike did most of the work.
I did help some, though. We started by adding mud
to the new drywall. Just the first coat.

I designated Mike in charge of the ceiling seams. I do seams on walls,
nail holes and screw holes. I really suck at taping overhead seams.

We got an okay amount of mud work done.

We also started fixing the less-than-perfect countertop.
What a mess! Wet-grinding concrete indoors.

Mike added little pieces of drywall around the window that we forgot.

He also affixed a condensate drain and overflow pipe to the air handling
unit in the attic. The moisture sucked out of the air by the A/C has
to go somewhere. In this case, down the drain and out into the yard.
If we get water coming out of the overflow pipe, we have a problem.

A different view of the condensate works.

This is the impaler, otherwise known as the overflow pipe.
"Impaler" is not a fancy plumbing term. It is what I named
this pipe after it put at least two gouges on Mike's head. I'm not
exactly sure why, but he bangs his head on various stuff a lot.

Mike installed the steel door between the garage and bedrooms.

I made this sign for the end of our driveway. We don't have
a mailing address, so mapping software can't locate us. I had
to add this so the telephone company will know whether they
have followed my driving directions properly.

Yep, you read right. We're getting a telephone!
