The Kirkpatrick's D.I.Y. Project 2006 (Year Two)

More Interior Work

September 1 - 4, 2006

I am REALLY late updating my Web site, but work really has progressed.
We did go to the job site the last weekend in August, I just didn't take any
pictures worth sharing. If you notice that the picture quality is not up to our
usual standard, it is because I forgot to take my digital camera and actually had to buy a
disposable film camera. Talk about going back to the dark ages!

Mike has been VERY busy installing duct work.
These are needed to support our central air conditioning
system, which is slated for the far future.

Mike working above the ceiling.

We sort of got a chuckle out of this shot. Why?
Because it shows Mike actually using duct tape on ducts!

Duct work.

Duct work.

Preparation for the over-the-stove exhaust hood. It's the piece
of wood in the middle with the white wire hanging down.

Mike unrolls the copper piping. This is how the propane
gas will get from the back of the house to the kitchen.

Copper piping is flexible, but not nearly as flexible as we
would have liked. Feeding it through the ceiling was a real pain.

A lovely shot of piping, wiring and duct work. All necessary evils.

The return air duct.

As Mike was doing all the hard work, I was doing fun stuff like
filling our new medicine cabinet. It is SUCH a relief to have a place for
Mike's toiletries and sundry personal items. They were really scattered.

I was painting the inside of the kitchen cabinets, too.

This is the first step toward having a kitchen full of finished cabinetry.

Believe me, that will be welcome relief from cooking all meals
in an electric frying pan on a drywall counter top. We're thankful
for that, but I am also anxious to have a real, gas stove.

The last step before calling it quits for the weekend was installing
the plastic on the ceiling, which serves as a vapor barrier between
the drywall and the insulation. We almost have a fully enclosed space.

It is sort of looking like a room. Notice my finger in the picture?
