Better Late Than…

I’ll be honest. One of my favorite sayings is, “better late than pregnant.” But since I just found out that one of my blogging buddies in Thailand — Jade at Tasting Grace — is pregnant, and I am SUPER excited for her and her cute hubby, I just couldn’t bring myself to use that as a title for this post. She and her cute little husband are going to be the best parents.

As I was looking through pics last night, I realized just how bad I have been about posting here lately. I mean, some of these pics are from February. And we’re already very close to mid-March.

For my heart-loving pal.

But I still thought they were worth sharing.

I absolutely LOVE looking at the various store windows on Old Town Warrenton’s Main Street.

My buddy Janet at The Empty Nest has the most-beautiful Spring window.

I didn’t take that picture, but didn’t think she’d mind me sharing it with you.

Speaking of The Empty Nest, this is one of the adorable little items offered for sale there.

Why, yes, you ARE a Spring chicken!

I just love that store.

This sign was in the window at Shelf Life, another gem on Main Street.

You all know how much I love this store, right?

Oh, and here are a couple of cool house and porch captures.

My favorite house on North 6th Street.
My favorite house on North 6th Street.

I really love blue houses. And I am such a sucker for red.

Red!
Red!

A blue house with TWO red doors. How can I not love that?

Funny story… while out shooting snow pics on Wednesday morning, I met a guy named Carlos (I think that was his name, anyway) who said he lived at 25 N. 6th. I didn’t realize that was this blue house. Otherwise I would have told him just how much I love his charming abode. His name might have been Ron. Or Bob. I’m awful with names.

Here’s another N. 6th Street neighbor’s place.

Is this the cutest porch or what?

Even buildings is slight disrepair hold some charm. The lines of this place always capture my eye.

Great lines.
Great lines.

Speaking of lines… I really like this last shot, too.

Next, I’ll have to share some of the great captures from my girlfriend getaway.

I really am trying hard to get caught up. On posting AND reading.

To all my blogging buddies who are probably feeling a bit abandoned, I have NOT forgotten you.

Warrenton Reflections on Sandy

Sandy did not completely overlook the Virginia Piedmont. But the storm’s impact on us was nothing compared to what the people in other states suffered.

However, because I know folks would wonder how we fared, I had to take pictures.

I HAD to. Right?

Hubby makes fun of me for, among many other things, becoming absorbed by news coverage of disasters. He doesn’t understand why I would want to see so much suffering. How can I enjoy such a thing? All that pain and destruction.

The thing is, I don’t enjoy that at all. What draws me in is the power of nature. Weather has always intrigued me. It’s seeing the result of natural forces beyond anyone’s control that fascinates me. That and seeing the people who made it through whatever trauma and survived.

People have always fascinated me, too. For as long as I can remember, I have always wondered what it would be like to be some other person. To see and experience the world through someone else’s eyes.

Not that I want to be someone else. I just wonder what the world looks and feels like for other people.

We were lucky to only have been at the outer edges of the Frankenstorm. My heart truly aches for those people closer to the storm’s path who lost so much. And even for those folks far removed from the hardest hit areas who lost loved ones. Or who had property damage, some so significant that houses had to be condemned.

FauquierNow.com, a local news outlet, ran a brief story on the impact to our area.

They even used one of my pics. 🙂

Speaking of my pics…

Rather than post a bunch of individual images here, I plopped them into a brief slideshow. It is embedded below if you would like to see.

Blending In

Howdy!

Wondering where I’ve been? Well, I’ll tell you…

I’ve been busy at my other blog, the one most of you would have no interest in whatsoever, keeping up with a post-a-picture-a-day-for-a-whole-month challenge.

It’s been fun. Even if I have neglected you guys.

Does that picture remind you of anything? A famous movie scene, perhaps?

You know, this one.

Can you believe February is almost over? Perhaps March will provide more material for me to post about here.

I Had to Drop a Matty B Remix

This morning dawned cold and dreary. It was the sort of morning where all I really wanted to do was stay in bed. But I knew it was a workday. So I brewed some coffee and plopped myself in front of the computer to ingest the steamy brew.

There was nothing interesting in the news. So I just clicked my way around the Internet. People post some really whacky stuff.

I mean, I came across some stupid stuff. But then? Then I stumbled upon a treasure.

Said treasure being Matty B who has got to be the baddest 8-year-old ever.

“Not bad meaning bad, but bad meaning GOOD.” (Do you know who said that?)

He raps. It’s awesome. He covers popular rap tunes using his own alternate lyrics.

It sort of takes you back to the day when rap lyrics were fun. When “dirty” lyrics included things like “…and Rip Van Winkle fell the Hell asleep.”

Painful, right?

Nowhere near as bad as that gangsta rap stuff.

Anyway…

Matty’s raps are cool. In case you can’t understand him, here’s the opening lines of this cool little video.

People rappin ’bout their cars. And they money.

Why would you rap about your stuff?

Now that’s just funny.

Course their treasures ain’t like mines.

My stuff’s sick.

So I had to drop a Matty B remix.

Now, some of you won’t enjoy this. But that’s okay. Cause I know some of you will.

I just LOVE the chauffeur.

Check it out, yo!

If you think he’s awesome and need to see more, he’s got his own YouTube channel. Some of the other ones I like include…

Oh yeah, there’s also a cute clip of his first radio interview where a DJ asked him if girls were all up in his ish.

I guess I really am old. I have no idea what an ish is…

Images of Warmth

Look what’s sitting on my kitchen table.

My Happy Birthday bouquet of tulips.

Aren’t they gorgeous? So warm and Springy looking!

I just love the colors!

These arrived via UPS two days ago. My brother, sister-in-law, and nephew sent them as a Happy Birthday surprise.

Getting flowers unexpectedly is always awesome. Every time I see these sitting on my table, I smile. Because nothing says Spring like tulips. And I could use a dose of Spring right now.

For the record, some chocolates came along with the flowers. I would’ve taken some pictures of those too, but chocolate doesn’t last very long around here.

I’m guessing right about now Hubby and Shannon are thinking, “Chocolates? I didn’t see any chocolates!” 🙂

Ephemera

This weekend, for the most part, was uneventful. We went to the WV place, but it was cold all weekend. The dogs and I did go outside, but everything is brown. So I didn’t have much to photograph.

I did take a few pics, which I’ll share later. But first, I wanted to explain my title. In case you were wondering.

You were wondering, right? Did that awesome image at least pique your interest?

That image is directly related to my title.

It is just one of many, many FREE clipart images shared by The Graphics Fairy, aka Karen, a woman who collects vintage paper and uses it to create interesting clipart. She then shares it for free with the big ole blog world. Cool, eh?

Some of it is a bit too flowery for me. And some of it is quite strange. Like that sledding picture. But that’s what makes it interesting, right?

There’s a Search Page on her site to help you find stuff. If you go to that page, click on the word that describes the category of interest, not the little thumbnail.

“Ephemera” is one of her image categories.

I first heard that word when I discovered the company, Ephemera, Inc. My guess is you’ve probably seen some of their products at least once. They sell buttons, refrigerator magnets, mouse pads, you name it, with funny slogans on them.

That mouse pad image on the right is only one of their many products.

I guess I should warn you that their merchandise isn’t exactly PC.

But it’s fun. At least, I think it’s fun. And this is my space so I’m allowed to say so, right?

Can you tell I’m sort of grasping for material here?

Oh wait, I do have something new to talk about.

Can you guess what this is? It’s quite colorful, isn’t it?

Colorful Mystery Object

I could be mean and NOT tell you. I could just wait and see how many people leave comments guessing. But I’ll just be nice and show you…

"Thanks, Mama."

I FINALLY got around to making K a new bed for the WV place. The first one I made, over a year ago, is too skinny. This one is actually a bit too square. I didn’t put a whole lot of thought into its design.

Meg hogging the bed.

All of the dogs seem to like it, so I must have done something right.

Before I stop for the day, I will offer a bit of a cliffhanger. I took this next picture yesterday right before we left the WV place.

What's happening?

It’s the beginning stage of Hubby’s latest project. That Hubby of mine can really be a busy little bee. More to follow on that one. One of these days…
