Warrenton, Virginia

Tomorrow, we sign our Maryland house over to its new owners. It still doesn’t feel real. I mean, I know it’s sold. I know we’re moving. But I don’t think it will really feel real until the movers cart all our stuff away and we shut the door on this place for the last time.

That is when I think it will hit.

Right now, I’m just sort of numb. It’s been a busy couple of months.

But we’re moving someplace that’s is REALLY cool. A cute little historic town in Northern Virginia (NoVA).

Not the crazy-busy-bustling-DC-suburb part of NoVA. The part of NoVA that’s known both as the Piedmont and Virginia Hunt Country.

This picture, which belongs to someone else because I am STILL working out these blog bugs, shows the front of the courthouse in our new hometown.

The whole downtown area looks just as quaint.

Hubby and I are super-excited.

What’s Shakin’?

There’s lots of stuff going on around here. My blog and all of my blog friends are being sorely neglected. I’ll get back in the groove in about a month. Til then, here’s another quickie update…

The MD House

This time tomorrow, our MD house will no longer be our MD house. Tomorrow, we officially sign it over to the new owners. We’ll be renting back until the end of September. Which is very cool. We were not looking forward to paying an arm and a leg to store our belongings. Not to mention trying to live out of the WV place until we found a home. I mean, we love the WV place, but it’s tiny and not really roomy enough to house us, our dogs, and our belongings (clothing, office equipment, etc.) long term.

The VA House

Yep, you read right. I meant to say “the Virginia house” because we are in the process of buying a house in Virginia. If all goes well, we’ll be the proud new owners of a house in Fauquier County, Virginia by the end of September.

The Blog

I’ve been having self-inflicted technical difficulties. Long story. Still trying to work the bugs out of some stuff.

The Shaking

Yes, I felt the earthquake yesterday. It freaked me out a bit, but all is well. Shannon is jealous that she moved to California, but we still got to experience an earthquake before she did! The dogs were less than thrilled when the earth moved, but they got over it quickly.

More Info…

…to be posted later. TTFN!

Five Hundred Quick and Easy Bucks

Yes, this is for real!

In case you haven’t heard, we’re selling our Maryland house. It will officially hit the market (MLS postings) any minute now.

Hubby and I have put our heads together to devise a marketing strategy that uses interesting ways to spread the word. Using this blog and my Facebook network was one idea.

Have you seen my SEVERN MARYLAND HOME blog? I created it specifically to spread the word about the house.

We were hoping friends and family would help spread the word. But we decided a $500 cash reward would be a good way to encourage folks to help get the word out.

If you share this link and someone you shared with buys the house because they heard about it from you, you get $500 in cash. It’s that easy.

If you share this with all of your friends and one of them shares it with someone who ends up buying the house, you still get $500. (It’ll be up to you to decide if you want to share the wealth with that friend or not.)

You’ll need to keep track of who you share this with, of course. And be sure to let me know if you think someone you know might be interested. That will help make sure you get the reward you deserve if they actually do make the purchase.

Maybe you know a real estate agent who has clients looking to buy in the Severn area. Tell that agent about this house. If he or she brings a client in that buys the house, you STILL get the $500. Just make sure that agent says… “My friend LuckyGirl told me about the house.” Or something like that.

In other words, we won’t know you shared this news with the buyer unless someone tells us.

Have you shared yet? What are you waiting for?

E-mail everyone you know a link to my house blog: http://www.severnmarylandhome.com.

Have a blog of your own? Feel free to blog about it.

Share my e-mail address: SevernMDHome@gmail.com.

Send folks right to THE LISTING document.

Share the link on Facebook. Do whatever you like. We just want to get the word out. Just remind everyone you share with to let us know they heard about the house from you.

And really, we’d be tickled to give you five hundred dollars in cold, hard cash.

So please start sharing today.

Down Time

Hubby and I FINALLY took a much-needed break.

Farnham Colossi

Wednesday evening we headed for the WV place for some R&R. It was wonderful.

On Thursday, I went to visit the Farnham Colossi (follow that link to read all about it on my other blog).

Friday, Hubby and I went for a LONG ride through the VA countryside (230+ miles).

Here I am with a serious case of helmet head.

It was fabulous. The weather was gorgeous, though it did get a bit hot by the end of the day.

My handsome Hubby.

One day soon we’ll have to try for a shot of both of us together.

On Saturday we went to visit our friends Kathy and Barry and we did some off-roading.

My first off-road adventure.

This is their driveway. They’re in the midst of improving the property. It doesn’t look too bad in the picture, but trust me when I say riding my motorcycle up and down that thing AND remaining upright made me quite proud of myself. I never would have attempted that on the cruiser. It’s way rougher than I should have attempted on the GS. But I keep telling myself people ride these things through the Amazon rain forest, I should be able to do a steep, rutted dirt driveway in Maryland for gosh sakes. And I did. 🙂

Seriously, I was amazed I made it to the top without falling. It was like riding a bucking bronco. I knew there was a very good chance of crashing on the way down, i.e., falling over at about 3 mph. A tiny little part of me was thinking I should have one of the guys get my bike back to the bottom, but I quashed that stupid, small voice of reason and went for it. And I survived!

Afterward, we rode into Frostburg and had a nice Mexican dinner at El Canelo.

Yummy Mexican fare in Frostburg.

I really wanted a margarita. Really, really. But alcohol and motorcycles don’t mix. Even when I was young and stupid (I got my motorcycle license at 18), I never so much as sniffed a drink when riding.

Sunday was a homebody day. I actually gave both bikes a much-needed bath. In addition to that off-roading, we’d hit quite a few dirt roads of late. They were both pretty dirty. Then I hacked a path through the trees, something I have wanted to do since forever, so I can walk the dogs without having to duck under a bunch of low-hanging branches.

Today (Monday) we did a short two-hour ride and found some cool new roads. Isn’t it amazing that we can still find roads near here that we’ve never ridden before? I mean, really. We’ve been here for SEVEN years now.

Tomorrow we’ll need to straighten up and then head back to reality. The break was good while it lasted! I hope you’ve enjoyed a nice, long weekend, too!

Father’s Day Gift

The real reason I didn’t go up to my Dad’s on Sunday is that I didn’t have time to make his pie first.

Dad LOVES my Apple Crumb Pie. He’d be perfectly happy to get one as a gift on every holiday. And to get them at intervals spaced throughout the year. Although then he’d probably get tired of them.

I had time to go get the ingredients on Sunday evening. Then on Monday, as Hubby was making dinner, I baked Dad’s pie.

Happy Father's Day!

It’s in a box surrounded by towels because I took it out of the oven, put it in the box, and then set off.

That’s what you call fresh-baked pie. 🙂

I hope all of you fathers out there had a fabulous Father’s Day!
